About The Role:

The Payroll Manager is responsible for processing payroll and leading all aspects of our payroll functions. This individual will partner with People Operations and Finance to ensure accurate payroll processing and reporting.

Our ideal candidate is analytical, with experience in payroll administration with a well-rounded knowledge of US and international payroll regulations and taxes.  The individual in this role will have the opportunity to use their exceptional customer service skills in assisting employees with payroll-related questions or issues and should have the ability to interact with all levels of the company. The ideal candidate wants to own payroll, has a high attention to detail, is naturally curious, and loves finding new efficiencies in processes and programs.

This role is remote, but you must be able to work Pacific time zone hours, ideally on the West Coast.

Examples of Work Performed

Payroll Processing

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for US exempt, non-exempt, and temporary employees

  • Work with local service providers to process monthly payroll for international employees located in Canada, Ireland, and India

Data Management and Analysis

  • Perform payroll accounting functions, including posting journal entries and reconciling payroll general ledger accounts

  • Reconcile, audit, and prepare payroll reports

  • Complete monthly account reconciliations for all payroll accounts

  • Collect, analyze, prepare, and input payroll data such as time records, deductions, garnishments, commissions, salary changes, etc.

  • Support bonus accrual for accurate recognition of expense

Payroll Administration

  • Perform year-end and new year Payroll/HRIS setup, including creating new year deductions and setting payroll processing schedules

  • Manage compliance with state and local reporting and filing requirements

  • Manage workers’ compensation reporting, payments, and the annual audit

  • Provide payroll information by answering questions and requests from employees while providing excellent customer service

  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws

  • Administer ongoing 401k processes, including many aspects of the annual audit

  • Support management of employee personnel and payroll-related data associated with payroll processing

System and Support

  • Enhance current payroll system configuration as needed

  • Assist with audit requests as needed

Required Experience, Skills, and Abilities

  • 5+ years experience in a payroll processing

  • In-depth knowledge and experience of payroll calculation and processing

  • Must have payroll processing experience (UKG a plus)

  • Solid understanding of state wage and hour laws as applicable to US payroll

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Self-starter and team player that thrives in a fast-paced environment

  • Must be able to work independently and display initiative

Nice to have

  • NetSuite experience

  • Advanced Excel Skills

  • Possess general understanding and experience with international pay laws

The starting salary range for this position is: $90,500 – $95,000 per year. Some roles may also be eligible for commission, bonus, competitive equity packages, and other performance incentives.
